Either way, buyers were happy to pay for the privilege of getting something special, even if they knew it would likely take additional time to complete the order. The appeal of purchasing a rare car offset the wait time vs. purchasing a new car off the lot. Fast forward to today, and the landscape has greatly changed. Gone are the days of rows and rows of new in stock cars to choose from, so if you want something unique, then custom ordering from the factory is now your best option. If you need a car and can’t wait for a special order, then purchasing from the cars available on the lot now is your only real option.
The absolute best part of custom ordering your new vehicle is that you are able to choose just the upgrades you want. You can order your car with the big NAV screen, leather seats, and AWD, and it can even be your lucky color: blue! When buying a car that’s in stock, you might have needed to compromise depending on the available new cars. You could get all of the tech you wanted, but it was FWD instead of All-Wheel Drive. Or you could get AWD, but it had cloth seats instead of leather. When you custom order your next new car, you get what you want.
Conversely, when you custom order your brand-new vehicle from the manufacturer, you don’t have to compromise with the tech you don’t need. Perhaps you were looking for NAV and All-Wheel Drive but didn’t care about the color or leather seating. While you might not be able to order each option by itself, yet by custom ordering your new vehicle, you can minimize the unwanted options. Be sure to check out any option packages, as they often have popular upgrades together at a lower price.
